Summer Awaits

The back door is open, I can hear the birds and I can feel the cool air on my legs and feet.  The dog is sitting next to me and I find myself thinking back to my Grandfather telling me that we live in God’s country here in Oregon.  On a morning like this, I’m convinced he was right and we truly do live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet.  I’ll take it a step further:  I don’t recall ever seeing things quite so lush before at the beginning of June.  It’s true that it’s been unusually cold and wet this Spring but if this is the payoff I’ll gladly take it.  (What choice do we have right?)

JJ and I had the opportunity of taking some kids from the church youth group to Cape Mears on Saturday.  It was in the upper seventies with no clouds to speak of in the sky.  It was an absolutely perfect day.  What a gift.  We had a chance to throw a frisbee and kick a ball around on the sand.  Quite truthfully, I could have taken an exam for Differential Equations and still had a good time.  How often can you say that?

Last night we saw lightning flash across the sky and heard the accompanying thunder claps while counting one, two, three, four etc.  I was sure the rain was soon to come.  But this morning is once again idyllic.  It makes me contemplate playing hooky for the day and taking the dog for a hike in the Gorge.  It’s too busy currently at work to do such a thing, especially with my assistant Sara in Florida, nevertheless it’s tempting.

These are the kind of days that are meant for adventure.  It makes me think of what it was like to be in fifth grade, just waiting for the weather to be warm enough so that I could grab my bike and ride over to Mt Tabor to pick cherries, climb trees and hang out with friends.  Summer is almost here and I can feel the pull and the promise of lazy afternoons and endless nights.  This is one of those days where you feel like you can do anything or nothing at all and either one would be great.

Have a great Monday and a week full of adventures.
